How long does it take to become an accountant?

How long does it take to become an accountant?
Im looking into taking a, working from home, accountant A Level course. I was wondering how long it might take to become a accountant and exactly what courses i would need to take after the A Level. Also it would be helpful having any information on what the job is like and how much it may cost me to do full training. Thankyou

Much depends on how far you want to progress. It took me two years at night school to learn basic and then advanced accountancy. Then a further two years working in an accounts office to gain experience. But all i wanted was enough experience to start out in my own business. There are so many different subjects in this study that it can take many years and cost a fortune.

What qualifications do I need to become an accountant?

What qualifications do I need to become an accountant?
Im still in high school, and Im thinking of becoming and accountant. I can take an apprenticeship in accounting in a local college..Would this be enough? ..do I need anything as well/instead of this?

I don't think that alone would be enough, but that is a big step in the right direction. If I were back in high school and wanted to be an accountant I would call my college counselor, rather than my high school counselor, asking for a little guidance. If you asked them similarly to how you asked this, you will be happy to have been helped out by them!

can volunteer work in salvation army lead to helping out the accountant?

can volunteer work in salvation army lead to helping out the accountant?
I am currently studying ACCA and looking for relevant work experience. I have not had any job offers for anything related to account due to lack of experience, so i was wondering can being a volunteer helper in a salvation army (which is just down the road where i live) lead to me helping out with the salvation army accountant? Or at least give me duplicated work which I can check if i've done it right by matching with the accountant.

You are very optimistic, that's good as you may not get a job.
Answer 2 :
I live in UK and is a pretty good job I can not tell you how much but it is good enough to buy what you want an need its pretty reasonable!
Answer 3 :
Last year as a Finance Manager with a large insurer I employed a graduate with a 1st class degree in accounting, who like you therefore had some exemptions from professional exams (no one calls a graduate 'part-qualified'). From memory the going rate at that time was about 20-25k in the City (London). I wouldn't say this is necessarily the best you can expect, but the firm were generally known as reasonable payers. Once you qualify... the sky is the limit, your earnings will start to rise very rapidly in line with your ability and experience. You will earn what you deserve.

How do I improve my employability as an accountant?

How do I improve my employability as an accountant?
At the moment I am doing a Mathematics degree and I am in the first year. I want to be an accountant, I have been made aware that this is possible with a maths degree, but I would like to improve my chances somehow. I know voluntary work experience is an option but where can I get this oppurtunity?

Answer 1 :
You really need to get a degree in accounting instead of math to be an accountant. If you want internships, you need to go to career fairs at your university and start making connections. Bring a resume!

What is an accounting technician, is it a fancy word for an accountant?
i was thinking of doing a 2 year evening course with IATI, are their courses reputable? would i be a qualified accountant afterwards?

Answer 1 :
Best to ask the course co-ordinator, but my guess is it may be someone who simply inputs data into accounting software.
Answer 2 :
an accounting technition is not an accountant. I have never heard of IATI - you would need to check them out first becuase you might find there course worthless
Answer 3 :
I am an 'Accounting Technician' i am not a fully chartered accountant, it means that i have completed AAT NVQ level 4 To be a proper chartered accountant you will need to go to university and complete a course like ACCA or ICAEW
