Are both an accountant and a financial director essential for a small business?

Are both an accountant and a financial director essential for a small business?
Say we have a business, turnover of about £1m per year and net profits of around £300k. The total staff is about 30. The company has an accountant and also a financial director. I am slightly confused for the need for both of these positions. Considering the company is fairly small, why would it need both roles? Surely the accountant could also carry out the responsibilities of the financial director? It would be nice to discuss the possibility of why both of these roles may or may not be necessary. Thanks.

Answer 1 :
Financial Director decides how the company spends its money - or at least advises the other directors. In a small company, the duties of a financial director would be shared between the other directors, or taken by the Managing Director. An accountant records where the money has gone - this is a specialised job but is often done by an 'outsider' as it does not have any bearing on the company's performance.

What is the difference really between an accountant and a book keeper?

What is the difference really between an accountant and a book keeper?
do accountants do basically what a book keeper in business has always done? or when, how branched off this necessary job to the role of an "Accountant"? why accountants make so much money and need so much education? how compare their incomes to others? and are they often making more money than advertisers, etc? why , how again? thanks fo ryour answers!

Answer 1 :
accounts reconcile the accounts and books that a bookkeeper keeps you need to learn about accounts profit and loss and how entries can affect business profits etc
Answer 2 :
All a book keeper does is record your income and expenses and eventual profit/loss in the books by a spreadsheet or a software like Sage for an accountant to look at. They help with the balance sheets too. An accountant calculates the tax you need to pay and ensures you don't pay more tax than you should and they can represent your business for the tax man. They will know tax laws inside and out...bookkeepers don't really unless they are studying to become an accountant. A good accountant saves your business and you a lot of money whereas a bookkeeper just saves you time, most of the time you can do it yourself if your business isn't that complicated.

Accountant.?

Accountant.?
A woman walks into an accountant's office and tells him that she needs to file her taxes. The accountant says, "Before we begin, I'll need to ask a few questions. He gets her name, address, social security number, etc., and then asks... "What is your occupation?" "I'm a whore," she says. The accountant balks and says, "No, no, no, that will never work. That is much too crass. Let's try to rephrase that." The woman says, "OK, I'm a high-end call girl". "No, that is still too crude. Try again." They both think for a minute, then the woman states, "I'm an elite chicken farmer." The accountant asks, "What does chicken farming have to do with being a whore or a call girl?" "Well, I raised over 5,000 little peckers last year!.." alan! check out the pic on my 360...it's gross....

Answer 1 :
it doesnt really matter what a levels you do it doesnt even matter what degree you do but it helps if youre good at maths and have an interest in business
Answer 2 :
Since you've already made your year 10 and 11 "extra subject" choices, I would have suggested business studies as one of those. However, I would suggest you work hard at your maths GCSE to be good with numbers. Apart from I couldn't really suggest anything else. Accountants generally are professional, so you may think about working at your ICT and English Literature GCSE aswell. Once your at college I would try at an accountant A level and maths A level. Then you've got another 2 choices of A levels to be able to have something to expand your future prospects.
Answer 3 :
get some advice from your teachers, they will know the best...

Answer 1 :
Go to any bank and open up a checking account. The account will be open immediately. You will receive some blank checks. But your regular checks and debit card, your password will come in the mail on separate days. /
Answer 2 :
Sure - online with ING bank is one such way. Or, just go to a local bank or credit union. They normally open it on the spot for you.
Answer 3 :
Open up an account with cash. Please note that you will have your references checked and you will face unusually long hold times on deposited funds until you have established a track record. The reason for this is described in this article: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2270669/protect_yourself_from_con_artists_and.html?cat=3
Answer 4 :
Online with Bank of America. But you need $25.00 to open the account.
Answer 5 :
Just go into the bank of your choice, tel them you wish to open an account, I think they expect there to be a sum of money to open it.
