What is an "audit" in terms of accounting?

What is an "audit" in terms of accounting?
thanx!

Answer 1 :
Basically it is just where a third party (anyone that did not prepare the accounts in the first place but usually an accountancy firm) looks at the books at (say) year end and checks them to verify that there have been no errors or illegal transactions.
Answer 2 :
It is usually an unbiased review of a company's financial statements to check that the financial statements have been properly prepared, and normally performed by a firm of accountants. The result of the audit is communicated in written form and contains the opinion of the person or firm that carried out the audit.
Answer 3 :
Please be advised that an audit can be a multitude of things. There are Internal Auditors, External Auditors: There are Governmental Auditors. An Audit is an examination of financial records (internal) & (external).

Is it a good idea to dress smart to see an accountant?

Is it a good idea to dress smart to see an accountant?
I have caved in and decided to get an accountant to help me sort out my business. Should I dress a bit smart or just go as I am so Im not pretending to be anything Im not?

Answer 1 :
dressing smart..always gives a good impression. but hes only there to do a job for you..so in a way..your one of his employers..
Answer 2 :
yes ,smart but dont go overboard..........
Answer 3 :
I went to see my accountant in blue camo bottoms, skateboard shoes, and clean pastel blue casual shirt.... sort of clothes I often wear. Just paid off last £300 invoice to accountants to clear the work they did for me. I'm not setting myself up to be overly charged by looking like Mr.Rich. In my experience many professionals try and draw things out and milk the fees. Just tell them what you need, and don't be afraid to discuss their hourly rate or give an estimate to the work they feel would be involved. Preferably, if they accept you as a client.. they would send you a letter setting out the costs they anticipate for your file/case.
Answer 4 :
your don't necessarily have to dress "smart" just don't dress trashy. you do want to make a good impression.
Answer 5 :
it's their job to do your taxes correctly no matter how you look.
Answer 6 :
Go in what you feel comfy in my dads an accountant and his clients are all varied but he treats them just the same..
Answer 7 :
your not seeing the queen at Buck House
Answer 8 :
I don't remember where I read this, but Coco Chanel said once, 'Dress shabbily and they remember the dress, dress impeccably and they remember the woman.' You can be presentable without pretending to be someone/thing you're not.
Answer 9 :
You are not trying to impress him are you? However, it is only polite to dress in a clean and tidy manner rather than scruffy trainers, jeans etc. In order to earn respect, one has to give it and dressing like a labourer off a building site is not the way to go about it. Always dress to suit the occasion, whatever it may be. When you think of it, he presumably, will wear a suit out of respect for you and to demonstrate his professionalism, and you should offer him the same courtesy.
Answer 10 :
You're paying the bill - dress in what you like! We have a small haulage company and my husband drives a truck, so sometimes we're off to see the accountant as he's arrived back from a long journey. Our accountant is therefore used to seeing him in grubby jeans and a shirt covered in oil and grease - it doesn't worry her - she just accepts its part and parcel of going out to earn a living. Just be yourself! Ask around though for a recommendation before deciding on who to use.

UK - Can a director of a business have the companys income paid into his personal account?
I have a limited company but due to being made bankrupt recently I have removed myself as director. My partner is now the only director and we are about to start trading. We never have yet! However he has poor credit status and cannot open a business account, he has tried but fails the credit checks. We require a bank account for invoices to be paid. Can it be a personal account or does it have to be a business account?

Answer 1 :
You must set up a business account if you're starting up as a limited company, partnership or any other key business structure. Sole traders can use their own personal accounts (or via a new business account - John Smith trading as XYZ).
Answer 2 :
i think its okay as long as all the money is well accounted for .
