Answer 1 :
Try contacting PriceWaterhouseCooper, they have training schemes.
Answer 2 :
i work for PriceWaterhouseCoopers. im also studying to become a chartered accountant. well if you go and do accounts you will get your masters or bachelors or which ever it is they now offer these days or you can do the other which is more of a direct direction for CIMA or ACCA. AAT is the building blocks and from there you can choose to do either CIMA or ACCA. seeing as you want to do chartered ACCA is the best choice. AAT comes in 3 stages. foundation (or certificate), intermediate (advanced certificate) & technician (higher ad. cert.) and when you reach the final stage is usually when you required to find a job and that is why i now work here. working also helps you coz it gives you experience and you can relate to your lessons and class work better. well good luck and you can find out more info on the web just google aat or acca. or contact a firm if you want
Answer 3 :
do your ACCA exams it is highly recognised. just logg on the their website for more information www.accaglobal.com

I have a criminal conviction from 5 years ago (related to drugs, not finance). I have since been to university and completed a business and economics degree. I have never committed a further offence and just want a chance to move on. No.My brother has a very similar story as yours and he works for a finance company and is a trained accountant.
Answer 2 :
Ask ACCA they will help.
Answer 3 :
no it shouldn't as all convictions after five years are spent i think the best bet is to be honest i don t see why it should as you are now trying to turn your life around good luck i hope you get a great job
Answer 4 :
Not at all, as it would be discriminatory. every one does deserve a chance, some areas of employment may have a legal clause preventing you from working with certain details or jobs due to criminal offences, but these should be mentioned during the application process including reasons why. But seeing as it is so hard to get a key workers job I was wondering if it was possible for a account make it look like (In some sort of way) I am a key worker?. Just for a few months. A good accountant can do many things. They run the risk of losing their credentials if caught though. You'd have to find one willing to do that.
Answer 2 :
Hi Dee, Well, my girlfeind was a "key worker", and had the use of a reasonable flat with a minimal rent. I really don't see the importance of an accountant in your position. Your qualifications, experience, and presentation should be enough to set you on your way. You can re-new your passport with "Occupation - Astronaut" What, pray tell has accountancy to do with it ? Bob
Answer 3 :
No, not if it isn't true. A good accountant would never resort to subterfuge anyway -- your few $$$ or £££ are not worth their career. The firm you work for will decide if you are a key worker, nobody else can or would even try.

What is the difference between an accountant and a chartered accountant?

What is the difference between an accountant and a chartered accountant?

Careers & Employment - 9 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I guess a chartered accountant has completed their professional qualifications.
Answer 2 :
charterd means you can do company accounts.
Answer 3 :
About GBP20,000 - 30,000
Answer 4 :
Chartered Accountants will have qualifieded through an institute such as ICAEW and ICAS. The other type of accountant you get is 'certified' which is through the ACCA or CIMA (for management accountants). Chartered is slightly higher in terms of status since you need a degree to train whereas certified you do not, but you learn the same stuff and so there isn't really any difference between the two.
Answer 5 :
There are many different types of accountant who can act for small businesses. Legally, there are no restrictions preventing anyone setting up an accountancy practice or calling himself or herself 'an accountant'. When engaging an accountant to act for your business, you need to ensure that they are appropriately qualified. The main accountancy qualifications are Chartered Accountants (ACA), Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or Associate of Accounting Technicians (AAT). What do these mean? By holding one of these qualifications, the individual demonstrates that:- they have obtained a minimum standard in passing entrance examinations; they hold professional indemnity insurance; they are committed to maintaining their professional knowledge by undertaking continuing training; and their practice work is monitored for its quality by the professional body to which they belong. An unqualified accountant may be able to charge lower fees but probably won't be able to meet the standards of a qualified accountant Any saving you make on fees might prove expensive in the long term.
Answer 6 :
I am also an accountant but not chartered yet.I am longing to be one.Accountants are believed to a have theorical knowledge about accounting and not professional but chartered accountants are professionals.
Answer 7 :
Chartered Accountant can do accounting for Govt. Comapnies and his/her signatures are accepted by banks and Govt. Accountant can be somebody who can do accounting but without any privilege mentioned above.
Answer 8 :
chartered
Answer 9 :
CA has been allowed to join the professional body, by passing exams and undergoing a period of approved training. I understand that being a CA is "top of the tree" as far as accountants are concerned

How do you become an accountant?

How do you become an accountant?
I'm thinking about being an accountant, I am 15 so I have I have plenty of time to change my mind.. I was just wondering should I take business studies/economic/computing at A-levels and at university, do you go straight into a qualification in ACCA or do you do an undergraduate course in finance and accounting etc. Thanks :-)
Higher Education (University +) - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You usually have to take accountancy at univeristy to become a qualified accountant
Answer 2 :
To be able to take the examinations to become a chartered accountant you would need a degree or an equivalent qualification. However, accountants come from all types of academic backgrounds, for example, I have a friend who is training to be an accountant even though she did a degree in French. The important thing is that you enjoy the courses that you are taking and that, when the time comes to work or apply for a job you will somehow be able to demonstrate the skills needed to be an accountant, this doesn't necessarily have to be through 'traditional' means ie. Having an A Level in Business or a degree in Accounting and Finance. That being said, presumably you think you would enjoy the work involved with being an accountant, so choosing business, maths or economics at A Level would probably be a natural choice for you anyway. So, in summary, don't be afraid to take an unconventional route to acheiving your dream career, there are many possibilities out there, but make sure some way or another you are highly competant in the skills needed for accountancy and that you can demonstrate them.
Answer 3 :
talk to your guidance counselor

My company was victimised by a fraudulent accountant and I am not sure what to do?

My company was victimised by a fraudulent accountant and I am not sure what to do?
He is not a qualified accountant to practice the profession. He used my company and did many dodgy things and started a new accounting firm. I am afraid to complain to Inland Revenue as it may put my company in red. Recently he got some visa problems and leaving this country along with many clients and telling that he can do their accounts from abroad. I don't know his client list to alert them. What should I do and whom should I complain and how can I sort my own accounts? Please help me and guide me.
Law & Legal - 6 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I know nothing about business, .......but common sense tells me to contact the Inland Revenue and the police. You must do this to keep your own name clean.... I wish you all the best and hope you can get this mess sorted out.
Answer 2 :
You were "victimised," by an accountant who did "dodgy" things (obviously he discussed this with or you wouldn't know about it) for which going to IR will put your company in the red? At what point did the alarm bells ring? Best advice is to go to a recommended, qualified (with professional membership) accountant and let him sort it out. If you could have sorted your own accounts out in the first place you wouldn't be in this trouble!
Answer 3 :
From what you write you would seem to have had some knowledge of this persons irregularities for some time?, Go to the inland revenue, and the police as there could be an infringement in law against this person. But whatever you do be prepared that you yourself, will have to answer some very detailed questions by these two depts officials
Answer 4 :
How will not reporting it keep you in the black? If he is damaging your company, keeping quiet will only allow him to do it to more people. If you are prepared to involve Inland Revenue, without the support of a circumstantial audit, you already have significant documentation. Regardless you will still need another firm to assess the entire system. Your first paragraph seems to be more fraud than tax issues. You were only a victim to the point you became suspicious and silence only aggravates the situation. If you begin with the local authorities, they will be able to alert the other clients and notify any additional agencies. Good Luck.
Answer 5 :
As to your last question "how can I sort my own accounts", things are probably too bad by now for you to still be able to fix it yourself. You will need to hire another accountant to straighten out your books. Make sure to get a qualified one this way.
Answer 6 :
You mut speak to inland revenue. They will do what they can to help and if you put it off it will end up worse for you The accountant needs to be reported to trading standards at least Also....even though he is not qualified you should still contact the institute of chartered accountants so they can be on alert and warn people should he return to the country Find a book keeper by looking through your local paper for this years accounts....and purchase sage software and either learn it or employ a part time person to control it. it will be cheaper than a firm of accountants

Accountant?

Accountant?
What qualifications to u need to be an Accountant :) Roughly what pay do u recieve (after tax)
Australia - 3 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
It really depends on where you work. Here in the United States, some places are more expensive to live in and so the accounting jobs will pay a higher wage rate. It also depends on if you work for a big company or a small one. Bigger companies tend to pay more. The type of accounting you do also matters. If you are doing bookkeeping versus auditing, the auditing position will pay more. Pay also varies depending on how much experience you have. A person who has worked a few years can expect a higher pay rate than a person just out of school. As for qualifications, it depends on what type of accounting you are asking. For a bookkeeping position, you only need an Associates degree, which is a two-year college degree here in the U.S. If you want to work for an auditing firm, they want a four-year university degree. If you want to move up in the company, you want a four-year degree. An MBA will help and so will a CPA.
Answer 2 :
You need to have at least a BA degree in accounting. The industry is complex enough that you really can't avoid this. Salaries very a great deal depending on where you decide to work, what area you choose, and whether you pass the CPA exam and get your license. You can earn as little as $40k or millions, if you're really competitive and improve your training and education. (Because of efforts to standardize the field of accounting worldwide, this answer is actually good for about 2/3 of the countries in the world. International accounting standards of the IASB are not very different from those of FASB in the United States. Of course, you have to learn the standards used in your own country, and you have to license in your own country, but when you do, you'll have a great deal of understanding that can carry you in other countries as well.)
Answer 3 :
Lots of Yanks around here aren't there. UK (and Oz) you need a Certified/Chartered, or other RQB, qulaification to audit company accounts, but no actual qualification to act for individuals. Check out the ACCA and ICAEW websites, which both have Oz branches.

What is a decent salary for a Chartered Accountant qualified in India, to live and work in the UK, esp London?

What is a decent salary for a Chartered Accountant qualified in India, to live and work in the UK, esp London?
We are planning to move to the UK and would like to know what is the best place to live and work in the UK and what is the decent salary range to expect to live as a family.
London - 6 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
in london, i would guess you would be earning about 25k but that depends on qualificaitons and experience i suppose. why not look at some job search web sites and get a feel of what companies offer as wages. you get better value for money up north, cheaper housing, cheaper goods and services etc, but obviously then wages are a bit less. dont live in central london unless you're really loaded with money, its very expensive for accommodation. i doubt you will be able to live on one income. depending on how experienced you are, you could be earning up to about 70k but that might be after a few years
Answer 2 :
£ 400, 000. would be nice.but dont bother stay where you are. and i mean stay where you are.
Answer 3 :
probably about £35000 until you have proved yourself and then the sky is the limit. Not sure that location matters, people all over the country need accountants. Don't try and start in London, go for places like Reading which is close but housing is much cheaper. If you have a family, you will probably pay £300000 for a reasonable house in the suburbs, moving in to the town will be cheaper but rather restrictive if you go for a Victorian terrace, as they are smaller, tiny garden, and nowhere to park a car.
Answer 4 :
I advise you to check that your Indian qualification does not require 'topping up' or conversion to meet UK standards.
Answer 5 :
The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether. London is in England.
Answer 6 :
Salaries vary depending on many factors. To find more accurate salary data you can try www.bls.gov, monster.com ,salary.com or PayScale.com. You will find that jobs like these are negotiable when it comes to salary.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/

I'm planning on becoming one, I start my degree this year. I think it will be hard but it is very financially rewarding. Money isn't everything but it makes the world go round. How old are you? You should speak to a careers advisor about it. Email me your msn if you want and i will add you to my MSN and keep you updated on what the course is like when i start it. xxx charlie.schmarlie@yahoo.co.uk
Answer 2 :
You are dealing with yesterday's news and someone else's money. It's really boring.
Answer 3 :
In the United States to become a CPA you will need a Masters Degree. Once you have your degree you will have to work for a CPA or a government agency for a year or two. Finally, you will have to pass the CPA exam which is one of, if not the, toughest of the professional exams. While gaining experience expect to get stuck doing routine audit work. It is boring and tedious, but necessary for you to understand. Once you pass your CPA you will start moving into the more interesting aspects of the profession. Analysis, planning, working with client management to minimize taxes, ways to improve the business operations of the clients and consulting. Hope this helps Jerry-the-bookkeeper
Answer 4 :
In the UK there are different types of accountant and different routes to reach them. The usual route to becoming a Chartered Accountant is to have a degree (subject not important - my stepson was a psychology graduate) and apply to one of the big firms like Price Waterhouse for a position. You study for your qualifications while you work for them. There's also ACCA, which is Cost Accountancy and CIMA, which is Cost and Management Accountancy. You can start on your route to either by doing a 2 year part time course for an Accounting Technician qualification and then move on to studying for the professional qualifications. If you pass with distinction it gives you some exemption from the foundation stages of ACCA or CIMA. If you have a related degree, there is some exemption from the foundation stages of ACCA and CIMA. Chartered accountants often specialise in things like tax and other disciplines of accounting. Certified or Cost and Management accountants work on more than just the numbers. They become more involved in what's happening within a business. (I studied for CIMA many years ago and found it a good all round approach to business.) In terms of how hard it is, you need to pass your exams and you need to work for a company that's big enough to have an accountancy department where you're using your learning. Once you're qualified, you can decide where to go - set up your own practice, work as a consultant, there are lots of options. Good luck!

ive got good gcses, been working all my life and in my second yr of aat, what else do i need to do?
Financial Services - 3 Answers

Take an accountancy course and get some qualifications.
Answer 2 :
Get your BS or even Masters in Accounting. Based on what you've said, I think you're an accounting technician. Therefore, taking a few more accounting classes and getting your BS/Masters would make it a lot easier to become a management accountant or an auditor.
Answer 3 :
You can become a Management Accountant with enough experience however you will need to be chartered to become an auditor which basically means doing ACCA after you finish your AAT. Technician at AAT will exempt you from the first 3 papers of ACCA leaving 11 to do.

How do I get back my money from an accountant?
I have left some shares with an account over tens years ago. I started to ask him to give it back to me. He ignored me. I felt that he had sold all my shares and keep the money himself. I am old and without money to get a lawyer. What shall I do to get back my money? Would any one please advice me what to do.

Answer 1 :
Find out which association(s) he belongs to. Email his association and complain, cc to him. He should in normal circumtances reponse to your request asap.
Answer 2 :
First of all if he is a qualified accountant it is highly unlikely that he would sell the shares and keep the money. He would lose his livelihood if he did. But these things do happen. What you need to do is send him a letter before action by recorded delivery. This needs to state clearly the facts as you believe them, and the action you require, in this case acknowledge of your letter and his reply. You need to give him 14 days to acknowledge your letter, he may request further time to reply more fully. It also needs to say what you will do if there is no response, ie lawyers or police. Further initial advice would be available from some lawyers free, or from your nearest citizens advice bureau. Best wishes. Kenneth
Answer 3 :
What do you mean, you left some shares with an accountant? Did you transfer the shares to him? Why? If you didn't transfer them to him they're still yours. Were they registered in your name? Who received the dividends(if any)?

You will not get an honest accountant to tell a lie and will most certainly not put a lie in writing. Key worker houses are for key workers because they are invariably low paid and you should not expect to tap into such a scheme in a dishonest way.

No, in any case, the housing provider would want confirmation directly from your employer - not an accountant.

Should I start working towards becoming an Accountant by doing AAT Foundation course?

Should I start working towards becoming an Accountant by doing AAT Foundation course?
I am a 27 year old graduate and am currently taking a Book Keeping for Small Business course at my local college. Thinking of a career change and am really interested in Accountancy. Any ideas where I should start? My lecturer recommended the AAT course (Foundation Level). Is this the best option? Thanks!
Other - Careers & Employment - 5 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Hi i am 26 and have just completed the book keeping course, iv been told that AAT is really difficult and would not advise it as home study but yes its a very good start. Good Luck
Answer 2 :
That would certainly help. You will also need to get in the door and get hands on experience. You may try a trainee accountants role. AAT foundation will teach you the basics of double entry and prime entry books. Yes its a very good course, each year gets harder!
Answer 3 :
Hi there. Last year I finished a degree in Fine Art, but was offered a trainee accountant job with a friend of the family. So having done 3 years of art, I had no experience with Accounts. However, I have started doing the ACCA course. It is taught worldwide & the organisation/association is highly looked upon. I am doing it as a home course & it is quite difficult to find the time whilst putting in the physical side at work however, it is very rewarding. Check out their website & if you want any further information, please email.
Answer 4 :
If you know the basics of bookkeeping then the Foundation AAT should be a breeze. The difficulty is when you start the Intermediate and Technician levels and you are not working within an accounts environment. It's very hard to take it all in when you have no way of putting it into practice. My advice would be to do the Foundation course and in the meantime try and find a job that will involve you putting some of the things you had learned into practice and some may even give you time off to study and go to class. Having completed the AAT qualification, whilst working in accounts, there are still some things I have forgotten because I never had to apply them in my job.
Answer 5 :
AAT is a very comprehensive course and would give you a sound background in all areas of accounting. But you mention that you are a graduate. Depending upon your degree, you could either do a conversion course for your chosen professional body (ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA) and then go onto full exams or you may even be able to go straight onto their exams with some possible exemptions. Passing AAT won't make you an accountant, it will make you an accounting technician. Nothing wrong with that, just limits your career path or makes the journey a bit longer. Decide which qualification you want, then go onto the student pages of their website to see the quickest way to reach your goal.

How do you choose a good accountant to go to?

How do you choose a good accountant to go to?
We have a small business and need accounting services how do we find a good one?
Small Business - 4 Answers

Answer 1 :
all the accountants Ive used are crappy, you ask them for advice and they give you options and you have to make up your own mind in the end. Your business needs to grow before you can afford a decent accountant. At the moment I use myaccountant.co.uk and they seem fairly decent.
Answer 2 :
Most accountants will give at least a 15 minute "free" consultation, you should look for one who has experience in doing accounts for your kind of business. You will know by the questions they ask and the ideas they give you, also you will "click" with them. My accountant takes a very close interest in my business (and so should yo), he rings me at least twice a week and is always giving me advice and ideas. Answer 3 :
look the persn tht have work before taken the person to work with u
Answer 4 :
I have used three accountants in the past, one was excellent and the other two were unsatisfactory. Now that I am a trainee accountant your question is still difficult to answer. But I will have a go. 1) I would take advice from business link. 2) Look at the website www.icaewfirms.co.uk (select category that matches your needs) 3) Learn some basic accountancy skills. Learn as much as you can. You will not be doing it. ROCE etc 4) Think along the lines of avoiding bad ones instead of finding a good one.

People in those professions generally screw over large proportions of the general public; whilst exhibiting a complete lack of scruples in their daily pursuits of greed.
Answer 2 :
Accountancy - Being bored s h i t less out of your entire mind. Moving little numbers on a screen, endless columns on a spreadsheet, trying to get someones private finances in order or working with product distribution for a big company. You will wonder why you studied.
Answer 3 :
I am an accountant so I'll tell you what I do but accountants all have different roles. I pay invoices, input them into the system, prepare monthly P&L reports, do bank reconciliations, answer questions from suppliers on payments and anything else I am told. Each day can be different and I really enjoy the work.

Answer 4 :
Bahamas, i not now but i know more about Africa. it can be a great tropical.
Answer 5 :
Have you ever considered Asia? There are demands in this area as large number of US industries have moved overseas.. so did the did the jobs.
Answer 6 :
Look at tropical north queensland. Accountants with a few years experience get extra bonus points for skilled immigration to Australia. Lots of jobs, the economy is booming in north queensland, and the bulk of Australian Graduates live in the big cities in the South so not much competition for work north. Anything north of fraser island is perfect and tropical.

Well i'm currently in year 11 doing my gcses and planning to take A level Business, Maths, ICT and English Language. After my two years of sixth form and i have acheived 4 As from these subjects would it be a good idea to study a Accountancy course at university while taking the ACCA qualification? Would this be a good way to start my career? if not what would you suggest?

Answer 1 :
You do a degree in Accountancy followed by the ACCA course. Having the degree exempts you from the first few exams in the ACCA. Best way is to get hired by a good Accountancy practice who will put you through those exams while you work - saves a lot of money.

Answer 1 :
Well if you want to go to a good university you'll have to get good grades - preferably As and Bs. Accounting would be maths/finance related subjects like maths, accounting, economics etc.
Answer 2 :
It depends on the university. Some will have higher standards than others. Go on to some of the university sites that you are interested in and look at their undergraduate degree prospectus online and it should tell you the entry requirements so you will know what to aim for.

How much does an accountant charge per day roughly?

How much does an accountant charge per day roughly?
I am doing some accounts and consultancy work for a company in a sector I have very strong experience and background in. What is a realistic figure I should be charging per day?
Careers & Employment - 2 Answers
People Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Can you see what other accountants have been charging them before? I'm an accountant but not in the UK so my rates are very different from yours.
Answer 2 :
Generally speaking, a consultant charges by the hour or by the job, not by the day. That said, most public accountants bill out their time for $100 + per hour, even higher for more experienced professionals. Whatever you decide on, make sure that you have a written contract with the company you're consulting for, explicitly outlining what job you are being hired to do and what the end product will be. Also, there should be some sort of contingency clause that allows you to exit the job if you can't complete it, and another contingency clause that allows you to make changes to the contract (with client approval) if the scope of the engagement changes during the project. Don't ever underestimate the legal repercussions of entering into a contract with someone. Maybe you could go to Nolo.com for some legal forms. Good luck!
