How do I prevent my software from expiring after 3 months?
I bought a Pastel Accounting Training software which is stated that it'll expire after 3 months and am wondering what I can do to prevent it from expiring so I can use it for as long as I can.

If you are looking for saving bucks, you can go for using cracked software from torrent sites like mininova. You may say that they are illegal softwares and my answer to it is what you had questioned is just the same, an illegall approach.

Software usually expires only if it is freeware or trial after which time you need to buy it if you want to continue using it. So, play fair, you obviously like it. You've had good use out of it and no longer can you fool software producers by changing dates on your computer.

What is standard when opening up a bank account in the UK?
I'm filling out an application to open up a London bank account while I live in the US and Australia. Surprisingly however they don't even ask me for my social security #. All they seem to ask for is a notarized copy of my ID from the form I'm reading. Am I missing something here? I would hate to go through the trouble of getting an overseas account only to find out that I didn't give them everything they needed.

How do I register Gmail account without giving a phone number?
I want to sign up to Youtube but it won't it let me unless I sign with Google first. When I try to sign up for Google, it says that I need to give them my phone numbers to receive a code. Surely I can register on Youtube without having to give themmy phone number?!

Why is it necessary to submit my personal password of my email account in order to subscribe?
I am not comfortable submitting my password to my personal email account in order to subscribe and become a member of the community! Why is this information even being suggested I simply give out in order to participate, become a member of community? Am not finding the answer to this simple question, and quite frankly, I am not willing, nor do I understand why my password is being requested.

I would have thought - 12 month annual accounts, a profit and loss account and balance sheet. Perhaps also a 12 month cash flow forcast for the upcoming year? Any idea whether there is anything that should be added to this?

I have a potential buyer of my Boat and he wants to transfer the money direct to my account. Is it safe to do so? I was planning on giving a old account which I never used. I have met the guy and happy he is honest. Help please! Thanks!

You say you've met him in person, which implies that he's local. If that's the case, why can't he just physically hand you the cash? The alternative would be a cashier's check from a local bank. I'd be suspicious of giving any stranger my bank account details, no matter how honest he seems.

They called me on Monday and told me they were taking the direct deposit back and sending me a check. Maybe he would not be able to get other money from the account, but there might be some way he could undo the transfer. Is this 3 or 4 figures or 5 figures or more (over $10,000)?

How can you set up an offshore bank account in a different name? What kind of ID do I need to supply to them? Can I just make up a name and start an account that way?

There was a time when you could do this quite easily. Indeed all you needed was to nip over to Amsterdam and open a postal savings account. Now it is all but impossible. Banks are required to see valid ID so you would need to first get a passport in your new name. Then you would need an address. If you use a local address, the bank will also want to see some proof of your status as a resident (residence permit) or set you up as a non-resident account holder. As a non-resident account holder, your financial information will available to the country of your passport. Guaranteed. So now you have your new identity and an account. What next? Well the next is to get money into and out of that account. Nobody takes wads of cash any more and all banks require to know the source of money being transferred from another account. Maybe you are able to be paid offshore for a project? Then you can fund the account with a wire transfer although of course the company has to report that transaction somewhere and oops you have a false name . . . Do you get where this is going? Cheaper to pay the tax!

From what i know the basis for computing performance bonus depends on your company's policy on performance bonus. In the absence of such policy, you can call the Dept. of Labor they might be able to point you to the appropriate section in the DOLE Manual. Your employees are lucky to have considerate employers like you.

There are no rules on how you can compute the performance bonus so here are some guidelines that you can tailor-fit to your requirements: Additional month pays, can be pro-rated similar to the computation of 13th month pay. You have the option of going for a 14th month/15th month pay. If you're going for 16th or more, maybe I can start working for you. ;-) You can designate a fixed amount, say P100k, then divide it equally amongst the employees. You can have some computation rules so that employees who have been with you longer can get more. You can give a fixed amount to each employee, say a P10k surprise in their payslip. If you have an employee performance/evaluation system set up, you can use this as a factor in your performance bonus. For example, an employee who got 95% in the evaluation can get this amount. It can even be a range, say 80% to 85% can get this amount. The best would be a combination of the above. Oh, and if you decide to shoulder the taxes for the additional compensation, I'm pretty sure that the good karma will carry over to another successful year for your company. ;-) Hope this helps.

Paypal accepted an instant transfer on a closed account?
Paypal accepted an instant transfer on a closed account?
I made a commercial service payment but wasn't thinking and forgot I already closed my bank account on file. The credit card was just my debit card from that account, so Paypal has nowhere to get the funds from. Nevertheless, Paypal accepted the payment and it shows up as completed. What's the most likely outcome of this situation?

You PayPal account will show a 'negative' balance ... they won't tolerate this for long .. in fact, when they try to take money from your closed account they may well 'reverse' the payment you made .. PayPal suffers from a LOT of fraud .. they have a 'hair trigger' when it comes to protecting themselves against fraud and sticking their 'customers' with the loss .. they don't care who pays, so long as it's not them ! There are stories of people having PayPal transfers 'reversed' YEARS after the event ... If you want to avoid PayPal 'freezing' your account for 6 months, pay off the balance as soon as possible ..

I have several years of work experience in market research and on the editorial/publishing side of a business think-tank. I've come to realize that I'm in a dead-end position and don't see myself spending further decades in market research or in a business publishing role. I'm able to network with many finance professionals among my acquaintances. I do have a business degree, but am not specialised in finance or accounting. Unfortunately, I'm probably too old to be considered for formal trainee programmes. Are there "softer" experienced hire positions within investment banks that someone with my background can realistically aim for in order to get his foot in the door? How do I pitch myself as a career-changer?

Everybody has a right to privacy, I'm sure that you value yours at times and, more than likely, so does your friend. Why were you "snooping" in his emails in the first place? Why do you assume he is hiding things anyway, this is all part and parcel of this privacy that he should be able to enjoy without you assuming the worst. If you do assume the worst then you obviously don't trust him very much, do you, and if that is the case then I can't really see your friendship going very much further because, to me, that is just possessiveness on your part and if anything is bound to smother a relationship it is that! To answer your question, you can't find his password unless he tells you what it is and, in any case, you shouldn't even be looking for it - see comments above.

I want to go abroad and do some permanent/ temporary work in finance - places like UAE and Australia. How do i go about doing this? - i mean where do i look for these kinda jobs I understand recruitment agencies are really good - but which ones for working abroad? I have a degree in accounting and finance, and money would be no problem as i have thousands saved.

I'm also interested in doing this also because I've travelled and lived overseas and I've gotten used to being there. I find that it's better than being in the states, even though you do miss the occasional Walmart and Applebees. My advice to you would be to look and apply for companies that have offices and branches overseas which you can do from where you're currently at. Another would be to do some travelling to where you would like to work like Italy for example and see what jobs are offered over there and ask around, regarding how you can apply for those jobs as an American citizen. If you search for a job as a contactor, that will increase your chances of working abroad because of the large need for them out there which includes Iraq, etc.. Do as much networking as possible and make your intentions known, especially with your friends, acquaintances, and relatives. I'm sure that those job websites such as Hotjobs.com and Monster.com also have international jobs listed. I know that JobMonkey.com has some which I might just go see for myself. Good luck!

Edit: Yes I am a UK resident. I am contracting through an umbrella company which I am leaving this week because I am out of contract for the moment. They have offered to pay me some of my turnover through a capital distribution instead of wages/dividends as it attracts less tax. From what I gathered from the web, Capital distributions are done when companies are wound up and I don't see how they are planning to do it with me. I will ask them tomorrow but I doubt they will give me a satisfactory answer. Cheers.

I would assume that you have received a K-1 from a partnership or S-corp that has a line that says "capital distribution" (line 16D on an 1120S K-1 and line 19 on a 1065 K-1) and that is why you are asking. The capital distribution will not be taxed as long as it is under your basis in the entity - if it exceeds basis it is taxed as capital gains or ordinary income based on the holding period. This "exceeding basis" is a more complicated issue and most likely requires that you contact a tax PROFESSIONAL (not a tax preparer in a nationwide tax prepr chain). Your taxable amount on a K-1 is made up of the other lines "flowing through" to you. If this is not the scenario of your question post more details and we can answer better. Edit: Sorry my answer was for a US entity.

I need to answer this question for accounting, business studies. I just need to know a few disadvantages that a sole trader, partner or limited company would come across if they were too sell shares of their company. Thanks for any help

You have to organise an AGM for voting making it time consuming etc if there are too many shareholders? Shareholders will then split the profits with the original owners - so could be a disadvantage especially if the managing shareholders (original owners) feel that profits need to remain in the company for cashflow, expansion etc? I have instructed a building society by post to tranfer money from my account with them into my bank account.How many days will it be before that money will be accessible in order use with my bank.Thanks,have payments waiting,reason for the urgency.
