What does an accountant do for a private individual?

What does an accountant do for a private individual?
We live in Hong Kong but have a house rented out in the UK and we plan to return to UK. Should we have a UK accountant and what would they do?

If you can handle to make your own tax paperwork, you don't need one. I do it myself. But many of my friends get confused with it and hire an accountant to do it.

why would you like to leave a place like Hong Kong to return to the West and the crime here -

If you have a house rented out in the UK and it is earning you rental income then there could be an amount of tax that should be paid upon this. If you're paying tax already on the income in Hong Kong then there might be a tax treay in place that either reduces or eliminates any UK tax. Normally, it's easy to fill out UK tax forms but as there's an international element here, it's best to get some professional advice on the issue just to be sure.
